Visitors will be greeted at the front gate where a guide will tell you the history of the Castle and it’s owners who have played significant roles in the history of England. There are hidden corners of this Castle that have remained unchanged over the centuries. This Castle is a hidden gem in the North of England – the last remaining Clifford Castle which is not a ruin.

The portcullis door
The Old Great Hall and Malice Scourge restaurant and tavern one of the oldest rooms in the castle.
The Great Hall - around the pelmet are the shields of all of the owners of the Castle. See the suit of armour from George Clifford – Queen Elizabeth’s champion jouster. View portraits and other relics that time has forgotten.
Enter the ground floor of the Keep (which dates from around 1100) and enjoy an interactive armour display.
Each selection of our afternoon teas celebrates the best of British Heritage. Finish your tour of this ancient castle with a selection of finger sandwiches, scones, sweet pastries, home made biscuits and tray bakes which are served fresh daily.
