Castle grounds open to public
The gates of Appleby Castle are open and visitors are allowed to wander freely about this most historic castle in the county town of the ancient Royal Borough of Westmorland. Owner Sally Nightingale said she was delighted that public are able to walk freely and gain an understanding of the formidable medieval fortress that Appleby Castle once was. She is very grateful to Steve Hodgson Tree Services for reinstating many of the walkways in the castle grounds.
Part of the grounds are undergoing restoration works and are restricted however public are allowed to walk their dogs and picnic if they wish. The inner bailey is open, although public are not yet allowed to enter this ancient monument. Experience the stunning scenery of this beautiful castle.

Children under 16 free
