Appleby Town Carnival
Appleby Castle is delighted to host the Appleby Town Carnival for 2016. The theme for the carnival is Carnivals Around the World and the multitude of possibilities will be very interesting. Will there be a float from Rio de Janeiro, a mardi gras from New Orleans or a fancy dress from Cologne.
Many volunteers work tirelessly each year to provide a town carnival to be enjoyed by all. After the devastating floods in December it’s hoped that the carnival will stimulate civic pride and foster community spirit as we celebrate in the castle of the county town of the ancient borough of Westmorland.
The carnival opens on the evening of Friday 8th July with bingo in the marquee. What better place to site the marquee than the inner bailey in front of the Norman Keep.
Saturday will have entertainment and food for all ages. There will be;
- A special amusement area for the younger children where you can purchase a wristband giving the holder unlimited access to the rides. This is organised by the Carnival Committee.
- Taylor’s Amusements
- Slater’s Amusements
- Nick’s Train Rides
- Traditional sporting events including a tug of war and an egg and spoon race.
- Stu-di-Do and “Absolutely” band
Mrs. Nightingale said, “Now that the Scaffold has come down off the keep I would like to share the home of Lady Anne Clifford to celebrate with the community.”
